Having being named in hopes that it will be unshakable even in any hardships like the Noah’s ark, Ark Hostel & Café Dining was opened only a year and half ago upon renovating an office building. That being the case, it may be needless to say how clean and unique the hostel is.
But the reason for the cleanness is not just that the hostel is new, but that the staff are constantly thinking about making a comfortable environment for their guests, so ask guests to only wear shoes up to the hallway and remove them when entering the rooms, in order to keep the rooms extremely clean and hygienic. Also the women-only dormitories on the 5th floor are very popular being colored in Ark hostel’s symbol color ‘let’s-go-to-the-beach-pastel blue’, highlighting the cleanness and giving a sense of self-cleanse.
Such enthusiastic and creative staffs are also all very super friendly! One reason for this is because they can ALL speak English which can be very hard to find in Japan. There are even those whom are tri-lingual and can speak Korean as well so there’s no concerns about miscommunications. They will be very happy to help you if in need, like send home luggage, provide extra blankets or recommend places to sightsee.
Also the staff not only wants the hostel to be a social place between the guests and staff but among guests too,
so in addition to having the 2 shared spaces, rooftop and the 2nd floor kitchen dispersed, they often host events such as BBQs or Halloween parties, International Social Parties as well.
The terrace at the rooftop is a great place to relax and enjoy breakfast or daydream from the hammock. Or if you’re feeling unfit you may get a chance to join other guests in using the rooftop to exercise.
Uniquely, you will also find handmade wooden tables and seats as the rooftop crafted by the staff themselves, being the Do-It-Yourself kind of people they are, which is sure to make you feel more at home.
But if the weather is not so great, there is always the diner and café on the 1st floor to satisfy your appetite as well.
Another popular and unique facility of the hostel is the WA・Room, which makes you feel like you have stepped in a ‘ryo-kan’ (Japanese style hotel) as soon as you open the door. Some guests even change their rooms from the dormitory after a few nights so why not be greedy and casually experience a traditional Japanese style room as a treat? Or if not, a room designed in the motif of a traditional Japanese garden is a popular photo spot among the guests so why not just a take a memorable photo?
And don’t forget to check out as well as write in the ‘Ark Guestbook’ which is already crammed with the memories and messages from previous guests, when staying!
